Savory Onion Chive Scones (Gluten Free)
Nov 04, 2018
As I sit here typing this the rain is coming down. In droves..... and droves.... and droves. While it's not cold and there isn't any snow, the rain just sucks the heat out of the house and makes it dark and dreary inside.
Thank goodness for the crackling of a wood stove to heat our outsides. When it comes to lunch though our insides could use some warming up as well. With soup season hear it's also time for savory scones at lunch. Are you eating gluten free? Maybe you have company coming who can't eat gluten? No worries, these scones are great even for those who are on a gluten free diet (or even if your not!).
Here at the farm we go back and forth between no gluten and then letting some sprouted flour and soured dough creep into the diet. Thankfully these scones will go either direction and are highly versatile.
Many savory scones feature cheese of some sort. While I love cheese and so does the Farmer, I'm afraid that neither one of us digest it very well.
Instead of cheese these scones feature onions and chives. They are light and fluffy and yet mild enough to go with any soup that you might whip up. It could be a rustic veggie lentil soup like the one in the photos or it could be a thick creamy potato soup. There really are so many choices!

We are often through together quick soups in the Instant Pot for lunch. Since I can't seem to remember to through anything in and set it on the crock pot setting the Instant Pot is always saving me. No reason to cook it for 6 hours when it can be done in one, right?! This rustic lentil soup is super easy and friendly on the grocery budget to. If you are interested in that recipe leave me a comment!
In the recipe below we used Bob's Red Mill 1 for 1 Gluten Free Flour, but any gluten free mix should do. We also have an organic one recommended below that would work well. Or if you don't need gluten free your welcome to sub any flour you want. Just note that the amount of liquid needed may change based on what kind of flour you are using.
These savory scones may be rolled out and cut or if you don't want the mess of rolling them out I just love this stone scone dish. Nothing beats a good stoneware piece!
Well, I don't know about you, but now I'm hungry. Let's get baking!
